All evidence that Charity was Obadiah and Margaret’s daughter is circumstantial. However, her middle name was Hess1, and she named her firstborn, Obadiah Taylor Smith1. We think that’s pretty conclusive.
Charity lived to the ripe old age of 90 years, 3 months and 29 days2. She was born March 25, 1809, and died July 23, 1899, buried in Case United Cemetery in Glanford Township, Wentworth County2. It is likely she moved to Glanford at the time of her marriage, at the age of 25, to Hiram Smith on December 8, 1834. Hiram, a 23 year old yeoman, was living in Glanford3. His sister, Euphemia, had married Charity’s brother, Henry, making them doubly related.
Together, they had five children: Obadiah Taylor (1835), Hannah Catharine (1836), Christena Margaret (1839), Phoebe Ann (1841), and Hiram Lafayette (1848)1.
